Tom Miller Seeks Office as Bolton Selectman Tom Miller of 241 Wattaquadock Hill Road declared his candidacy for the office of Selectman as he signed the nomination papers put forward by the Bolton Town Caucus at its meeting on March 18. I am running for this office for a number of very important reasons. First and foremost, I wish to restore the public confidence in Town government by campaigning against attempts to engineer unopposed elections. It is my firm belief that this office is too important to be given to any individual. It should be earned by free and lively debate about what role local government should play in the lives of Bolton citizens. Secondly, the safety of children on their way to and from school is non-negotiable. Steps must be immediately taken by the Town to ensure that a repeat of the March 5 accident does not occur. Banning children and other pedestrians from using the crosswalks on Main Street is not the answer especially with the advent of the long awaited elderly housing complex. Crosswalks need to be made safe, not abandoned. And finally, as the Commonwealth works its way out of the national recession, the Town of Bolton must adopt a comprehensive fiscal plan to address the delivery of local services particularly in the area of education funding. I plan to call on all local officials to pursue ways to expand the tax base through economic development initiatives that may include neighboring communities. We also need to work together to preserve open space cost-effectively to control residential growth and to adopt a strategy with our federal and state legislators to ensure Bolton\rquote s fair share of municipal grants. Miller promises a lively debate of other issues facing Bolton residents as well. He commits to weekly announcements during the campaign on such topics as public health and safety, the environment, affordable housing and taxation. An architect and redevelopment specialist for communities throughout Massachusetts, Miller has lived in Bolton since 1994 with his wife Beth, daughter Evelyn and son Jack. He has been closely involved in a number of public issues in Bolton including the siting of the new public safety communications tower, the review of the Sunset Ridge Condominiums and the preservation of the Philbin Salmon Trail to Welch Pond. My experience assisting communities throughout Massachusetts has created an understanding of local government that is unique and would be extremely valuable in my role as Selectman\rdblquote said Miller.
